You are arranging a dinner party. Write a letter to your friend to invite him or her to the party. Say why you are holding it and give the necessary details.

Dear Bob,
How are you? I haven’t seen you for a while. Hope all is well. Anyway, I’m writing because I’m inviting some friends over for dinner and I thought you might also like to join us.
親愛(ài)的鮑勃：
你好嗎?好久沒(méi)有見(jiàn)到你了，希望你一切都好。我給你寫(xiě)信的原因是我要邀請(qǐng)一些朋友前來(lái)吃晚飯，所以想到你也許愿意一起來(lái)湊個(gè)熱鬧。
The dinner will be at my place, next Wednesday at 7 o’clock. Mary is doing the cooking, which I’m sure you’ll be pleased to learn. I’ll be taking care of the bar.

Your friend is getting married and he has invited you to his wedding. However, you can’t make it for a certain reason. Now write a letter to explain why.

Dear Steve and Monica,
Thank you very much for the invitation to your wedding. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend.
親愛(ài)的Steve、Monica：
謝謝你們邀請(qǐng)我們參加你們的婚禮。不幸的是，我們無(wú)法前來(lái)了。
The reason, I’m pleased to say, is that Wendy is pregnant and the baby is due more or less on the day of your wedding! Although she said it’d be all right for me to come over alone, I feel it’s the least I could do as husband, that is, to be by her side and to take of care her after the baby arrives.
